Book Suggestions?

My sweet sister gave me a Borders gift card for my recent birthday. (Most of you know that I LOVE to read. Megan does too--we share book suggestions from time to time.) The gift card is probably enough to buy two, maybe even three books if I get some good deals. Anybody have any suggestions about how to spend it? I'm especially interested in hearing about any must-read parenting books I should get to while I still have the luxury of lots and lots of reading time. But I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Hmmm... I highly doubt that I can be of much help here as you are the one who helps me add quality books to my list! I would say though that "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp and "Don't Make Me Count to Three" by Ginger Plowman are on my "really-great-to-own parenting books" list.

I agree with what Jamie said. I am currently reading Elizabeth Prenetiss' biography "More Love to Thee." My favorite cookbook is "Stop and Smell the Rosemary." The recipes take longer to make but they are great!

Hi Courtney! Fiction-wise--I love anything by Francine Rivers (especially Mark of the Lion trilogy) although I'm not into her recent Biblical characters series...parenting-wise, in addition to the ones above I loved The Shaping of a Christian Family by Elisabeth Elliot. And for some great American history (really-I could hardly put the books down!) Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick, and The American Plague [yellow fever] by Molly Crosby. Happy book browsing!

Hey Courtney! Well...have you read "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Tin Boom? It's wonderful! How about "Aunt Jane's Hero" by Elizabeth Prentiss? That's a great one too! I'm currently reading the "Elsie Dinsmore" series by Martha Finley. I think there are ten books in the series (obviously a little more than your gift card would cover) but I HIGHLY recommend them. They are awesome. They are a historical fiction series(the mid-late 1800's) and the main character is a lovely Godly woman and each page that I read I am totally convicted by her right response and Godly perspective on things. Are you familiar with Bill Peet? He is a children's author but he is one of my all time favorites and he has written several super fun books. Daniel reads Bill Peet books to Aden all the time. Gosh, I have so many more suggestions but my "comment" is getting quite long. Perhaps I'll email you more ideas. I miss you and I am glad that I finally logged on to your blog. Your rooms look so nice! A job well done!
